Bitcoin is the first-ever cryptocurrency. Satoshi Nakamoto was the creator of Bitcoin. Satoshi Nakamoto first ran the Bitcoin network on Jan 12, 2009, and at that time 50 Bitcoins were generated per block and 7200 Bitcoins per day by a process called Bitcoin Mining. For every 21,000 blocks or approximately every four years, Bitcoin Halving occurs and the number of Bitcoin generated every day becomes half. Currently, only 6.25 Bitcoins are being generated per block and 900 Bitcoins every 24 hours.
Bitcoin software is free and anybody can download it and connect to the Bitcoin network. You can even download the whole bitcoin blockchain and verify and even mine Bitcoin for yourself.
Only 21 Million Bitcoins will ever exist. Currently, there are 18,727,062 Bitcoins in circulation.
