Blue Chip NFTs is a common term used by crypto twitter. NFT collections which are most popular and have great fundamentals are called Blue Chip NFTs. They have the best communities and following in crypto and NFT space.
NFT or Non-fungible tokens are the most discussed topic right now. Everybody who hasn't heard of NFT before wants to own an NFT. Opensea, the largest NFT marketplace has recorded an all-time high NFT trading volume of $4.9 billion in January and over $3.9 billion in February 2022. Looksrare, another NFT marketplace has also had increased volumes in the last few months.
While there are a lot of NFT collections popping the market every now and then. Some NFTs are about the art, some about the community, and some are just cash grabs. Blue Chip NFTs have a great community and holders have some value and authority in the crypto twitter. Only time will tell which collection is going to succeed and which teams or projects are going to implement and adjust their roadmap better.

Blue Chip NFT Collections
1. Cryptopunks
Cryptopunks are the first-ever NFT collection to be created. Cryptopunks were created in 2017 by Larva labs. 10,000 unique Cryptopunks were created on the Ethereum blockchain. Every Cryptopunk NFT has different properties or traits which make them unique. Cryptopunks lead to the evolution of crypto art and NFTs and the creation of the ERC-721 token standard. Being the first-ever project has its merits.
Cryptopunks are the most traded NFTs on Ethereum. Cryptopunks were given away for free in 2017. The floor price(the least price at which any NFT in the collection is selling) of Cryptopunks is 67.5 ETH. Cryptopunk #5822 was sold for 8,000 ETH($23.7 million at the time of sale). Many rare Cryptopunks were sold for millions of dollars.
2. Bored Ape Yacht Club
Bored Ape Yacht Club is a relatively young NFT collection compared to the Cryptopunks. This collection is often referred to as Bored Apes. Bored Ape provides you access to the exclusive members-only social club. Adidas has partnered with Bored Apes to release their own NFT collection. Every Bored Ape holder has got to mint an Adidas Into the Metaverse NFT. Bored Ape Yacht Club also plans to launch a $APE token in 2022.
Yuga Labs LLC is the creator of Bored Apes. 10,000 Bored Apes were launched in April 2021 at a price of 0.08 ETH($220 then). As of today, the floor price is 81 ETH, which is over $215,500. Bored Ape #2087 was sold for 769 ETH, which is the highest price paid for a Bored Ape.
Many celebrities like Stephen Curry, Eminem, Jimmy Fallon have got one of these Apes. Justin Bieber has also bought a Bored Ape for 500 ETH. Bored Ape Yacht club has become more popular in the NFT and crypto twitter communities and celebrity involvement. Yuga Labs have also given away Bored Ape Kennel Club for the Bored Ape holders to adopt and dog and Mutant serum which are worth hundreds of dollars today.
3. Mutant Ape Yacht Club
10,000 mutant apes were sold in a Dutch auction type public sale by Yuga Labs LLC, the same entity that created Bored Ape Yacht Club. And 10,000 Mutant Serums were airdropped to Bored Ape holders on August 28, 2021. These mutant serums were of three types M1(7500), M2(2492), and Mega(8) mutant serums. Bored Ape holders have to burn these serums to generate a Mutant Ape. Each mutant serum can generate only one Mutant Ape. These 20,000 mutant apes are trading under the collection Mutant Ape Yacht Club.
Mutant apes were sold in a price range of 3 to 2.7 ETH in the public sale. Bored Ape holders got them for free. At this time, the floor price of Mutant Apes stands at 16.4 ETH($43,000). Holders who haven't used their serums are selling M1, M2, and Mega mutant serums for 18.9, 36, 2420 ETH respectively. Mutant Ape #4849 was sold for 350 ETH, which was the highest price paid for a mutant ape. However, Mega mutant serums were sold for higher prices as it generates unique 1/1 mutant ape.
4. Cool Cats NFT
Cool Cats NFT are 9,999 randomly generated NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Cool cats are created as a PFP project with a lot of unique traits. 20% of all ETH raised by the project was used to return to the community through contests and raffles. Holders have a voice in the direction of the project. Cool Cat holders can also earn $MILK tokens.
Cool Cats NFT were launched on July 01, 2021. The mint price of Cool Cats NFT was 0.02 ETH for each NFT. Currently, the Cool Cats floor price stands at 7.14 ETH($18,897). Cool cats have an all-time trade volume of 89,400 ETH. Cool Cat #1490 was sold for 320 ETH, which is the highest price paid for a Cool Cat NFT.
Cool Cats launched the Cool Pets NFT collection on Feb 07, 2022. Every Cool cat holder got a free Cool Pet NFT. And 10,000 Cool Pets were sold at a price of 0.5 ETH in the public sale. The floor price of Cool Pets NFT stands at 1.29 ETH. Cool Pet holders can do quests and earn $MILK tokens. The team is currently developing a game based on Cool Pets.
5. Doodles
Doodles are a collection of 10,000 NFTs designed by burnttoast, a Canadian designer who has worked for Google, Whatsapp, and Snapchat. Two other team members have worked at the famous Cryptokitties. Doodles is a community-driven project where community members have a say in the product features, products, and events. Doodles also have a Doodle bank, which is the community treasury that has over $5 million for future endeavors.
Doodles were launched on October 17 at a price of 0.123 ETH. The next day the floor price was around 1 ETH. The floor price was hovering at 10 ETH at the time of writing this article. Over 3,800 wallets own Doodles and 86,200 ETH was the all-time trading volume of Doodles. Doodle #6914 was sold for 296.69 ETH, which is the highest price paid for a doodle.
Doodles have launched Space Doodles. Every Doodles holder gets a Space Doodle but...a Doodle holder has to wrap his NFT to get a Space Doodle. If you sell your Space Doodle, you will lose your Doodle too. That's how it works. It was done this way not to dilute the supply of Doodles. Anyway, Space Doodles are a great piece of art. I envy Doodles holders.
6. Clone X - X TAKASHI MURAKAMI
Clone X was one of the many NFT drops by RTFKT studios. Clone X was a special one. I have followed their project four months before it was launched and I like the art very much. However, I wasn't able to afford it. 20,000 Clone X NFTs were lauched by RTFKT studios on November 27, 2021. Clone X NFTs were launched in collaboration with Takashi Murakami, a famous Japanese artist.
10,000 Clones were sold at 0.05 ETH to the holders of RTFKT's previous NFTs. And another 10,000 NFTs were sold in a public sale at a price of 2 ETH(ETH was at $4,800 then). Even Gary Vee minted one at the public sale. The floor price of Clone X NFTs stands at 12 ETH. 450 ETH is the highest price paid for an NFT in the Clone X collection, for CloneX #4594.
A few days after the public sale, Nike has announced that it acquired RTFKT studios. Clones can be literally used as digital avatars in the Metaverse. RTFKT airdropped Space pods which are virtual spaces that is a room and has some furniture. RTFKT studios have collaborated with Nike, for an NFT collection known as RTFKT - MNLTH(pronounced as Monolith). 20,000 of these were airdropped to CloneX holders. MNLTH floor price stands at 4.856 ETH. MNLTH NFTs aren't revealed as of today.
7. Azuki
Azuki is a collection of 10,000 avatars that provide you access to the Garden. The Garden is a corner of the internet where art, community, and culture fuse to create magic. An Azuki is an identity in the metaverse. Azuki aims to empower the community through grants to creative artists.
Azuki NFTs were launched on Jan 13, 2022. Azuki NFTs were sold at 0.5 ETH to the allowlist(whitelisted members) and 1 ETH in a Dutch auction-type public sale. The current floor price stands at 10.09 ETH. Even it is launched after the other collections above, it became widely popular over the internet and has a trading volume of over 125,400 ETH. Azuki #4666 is the highest sold NFT in this collection.
Azuki's roadmap is vast and aims to launch $BEAN token which can be used in the Azuki-verse. Azuki will also want to create merchandise and partnerships with various brands.
All these collections are considered Blue chip for what they have been and what they have been doing till now. All of these collections have great communities and digital identities can be easily recognized in the virtual world. More NFT projects will be added to this list as they prove themselves in the long run.
