Where do we start? Bitcoin is the first blockchain. Litecoin, Ripple, Tron, and Ethereum are some Layer 1 blockchains. These are some of the Layer 1 blockchains that process & finalize the transactions on their own. You cannot transfer funds across these blockchains until now. There had to be an intermediate.

Enter Layer 2 blockchains. Layer 2 blockchains leverage some functions of Layer 1 blockchains and optimize for low fees or high throughput. Arbitrum, Optimism, ZkSync, Linea, and Scroll are some of the Layer 2 blockchains.

When you have better dapps on one of these platforms and funds on one blockchain, LayerZero helps you to transfer your tokens across these blockchains.

What is LayerZero?

Let's hear what LayerZero is, in their words.

An omni-chain interoperability platform that enables the realization of cross-chain applications with a low-level communication primitive

What does that mean?

LayerZero provides tools for developers to send messages across various blockchains. As all money on the blockchain, is an entry on the distributed ledger, LayerZero facilitates settlement of data. LayerZero has also developed new contract standards like 0App, 0FT, and 0NFT for multi-chain decentralized applications and tokens.

Top 10 layerzero bridges for layerzero airdrop

Top 10 LayerZero Bridges

1. Stargate Finance

Stargate Finance is the most popular LayerZero bridge. Stargate has liquidity pools across multiple chains which makes you transfer assets cross-chain. Stargate Finance has a total value locked of over $300 million. Stargate has guaranteed finality for asset transfers. Users can also provide liquidity and earn STG token rewards.

Go to https://stargate.finance/transfer, to transfer assets across different networks. However, all tokens are not supported.

Go to https://stargate.finance/pool to provide liquidity.

Supported Networks: Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Fantom, Metis, zkEVM, zkSync, Base, Linea, Scroll, Mantle, Astar, Astar zkEVM, Manta, Mode, Fraxtal, Blast.

2. BTC.b Bridge

BTC.b is the wrapped version of Bitcoin on the Avalanche network. BTC.b uses the Omnichain Fungible Token Standard (OFT) which is some LayerZero tech. Transfer BTC.b across various networks using the BTC.b bridge. You can also transfer BTC.b tokens to non-EVM chains like Aptos.

Supported Networks: Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Core, Aptos

3. Aptos Bridge

Transfer ETH, USDT, and USDC to the Aptos chain using the Aptos Bridge. Bridging back from Aptos to other chains can cost higher fees.

Supported Networks: Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Aptos

4. Testnet Bridge

Testnet Bridge is interesting. Sepolia is an Ethereum testnet. Generally, one would get Sepolia ETH from testnet faucets. But with this bridge, one can bridge your mainnet ETH to testnet. Testnet ETH has no value. So if you want to bridge, just do it for fun.

Supported Networks: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Sepolia

5. Merkly

Merkly is another popular bridge that uses LayerZero technology and other token-bridging tech like Wormhole, Hyperlane, and Polyhedra.

Merkly supports more than 20 networks. But you can not transfer funds using Merkly. Merkly is used to re-fuel gas on other networks, that have different native tokens to pay gas on those networks.

For example, if you have ETH on Arbitrum and you need gas for paying transactions on the Fantom blockchain, you can re-fuel FTM tokens using the Merkly protocol.

6. Gas.Zip

Gas.zip is an amazing tool if you want to re-fuel gas on multiple networks at once. Gas.zip supports more than 40 networks. With Gas.zip you can make multiple LayerZero transactions at once.

7. CoreDao Bridge

CoreDao Bridge is similar to the Aptos Bridge. Transfer USDT, and USDC to the Core chain using the CoreDao Bridge.

Supported Networks: Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Core chain

8. Interport Fi

Interport Finance enables interchain swaps or what you call crosschain trading. Interport Fi routes swaps through various liquidity pools and are powered by LayerZero to trigger transactions on the destination chain for a cross-chain swap. For example, you can swap your ETH on Arbitrum to USDC on Scroll. Pretty cool right?

Supported Networks: Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Fantom, Blast, ZkSync, Linea, Scroll, Injective EVM, EON, Polygon ZkEVM, Manta Pacific

9. Radiant Capital

Radiant Capital is an omnichain money market. We know Aave, a popular money market on Ethereum, where users can borrow and lend assets. Now, Radiant is omnichain. You can supply assets on one chain and borrow on another. Right now, Radiant Capital exists on Ethereum, Arbitrum, and BSC.

Radiant Capital has its token for its Radiant DAO, which is RDNT. With Radiant Bridge, you can send your RDNT across these three chains. Supported Networks: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Binance Smart Chain

10. L2Pass

L2Pass is a simple dapp, where you can mint an NFT on any of the 30 networks, and bridge your NFT to any of the 30 networks. You can mint as many NFTs as you want and bridge them. Their bridge utilizes LayerZero and if you are using L2Pass, then you are probably entitled to rewards from LayerZero.

How to become eligible for LayerZero Airdrop?

LayerZero has raised more than $250 million from leading VCs which include A16Z, Sequoia Capital, Coinbase Ventures, Binance Labs, etc. The recent fundraiser has happened at a valuation of $3 billion. So, they will launch a token probably this year.

The team has not yet decided on the criteria for the LayerZero airdrop, but the possible criteria could be

  • Use all the above bridges that use LayerZero technology.
  • More than $500 in bridge volume
  • More than 10 source chains
  • More than 10 destination chains
  • More than 25 unique protocols/contracts/bridges(that use LayerZero) interacted with

The more the volume, and number of source/destination chains, and contracts interacted with, the higher the rewards.

Additional criteria could be pooling funds in Stargate Finance and participating in staking and voting for the Stargate DAO.
